(Cleveland) - The Salvation Army kicked off its 2013 Red Kettle Campaign with a luncheon at Windows on the River. Major Lurlene-Kay Johnson says this year's goal is $693,000.
To get the campaign started Quicken Loans contributed $10,000 during the luncheon.
Look for the kettles the day after Thanksgiving, with the campaign continuing through Christmas Eve. Major Johnson tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 the need is growing with requests for assistance up dramatically this year.
She explains that the Salvation Army provides $15.5 million dollars in services to low income families.

Beau Hill is executive director of the Army’s Harbor Light Complex where he's seeing an increase in greater Clevelanders seeking help in kicking their heroin addiction.
Says the epidemic is wide ranging with their detox unit assisting people from not only the inner city but also from communities like Strongsville, Rocky River and Westlake.
