(Cleveland) Today at approximately 4:45 p.m., the U.S. Marshal’s Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested Carl Hampton Jr., age 28. Hampton was wanted by the South Euclid Police for felonious assault.
The charges stem from an assault that occurred on Dec. 20th last month. It is alleged that Hampton beat up a man after a verbal altercation. The victim was 34 year old Eugene Warren. Warren died a week later from his injuries.
The NOVFTF discovered the details of the rental car Hampton was driving and a possible location of the car. Members of the NOVFTF, with the assistance of the Lakewood Police, scoured the area until the vehicle was discovered near the 18800 block of Detroit Ext. in Lakewood this morning at 1:00 a.m.
The NOVFTF set up surveillance in the area and narrowed their search to one particular apartment building. After several hours of surveillance Hampton realized he was surrounded and had nowhere left to hide. At approximately 4:45 p.m., Hampton exited an apartment and was taken into custody in the lobby of the apartment building.
Hampton was transported to the South Euclid Police Department. U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said, “The patience and perseverance of the members of the task force paid off in full with the apprehension of Hampton. Their dedication got another violent fugitive off the street.” South Euclid Police Chief Nietert said, “The South Euclid Police Department appreciates the assistance of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in the apprehension of Hampton. We are fortunate to have them to help in our area.” Get breaking news sent to your mobile phone.Text "news" to 21095.
