Convicted rapist gets at least 65 years in prison

(Cleveland)--Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Mary Weston is pleased that a serial rapist has finally been brought to justice and taken off the streets.

Charles Steele was convicted of four rapes that occurred in 1993 and 1994.

DNA testing of old rape kits submitted to the Ohio Attorney General's office by Cleveland Police led authorities to Steele for one of the rapes.

After they made that discovery, he later was connected to three other assaults.

Weston says the victims were pleased when they were contacted after almost twenty years.  Three of them testified at Steele's trial.

Steele's indictment was the first after Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty organized a DNA cold case task force.  The panel pursues cases made possible by testing backlogged sexual assault kits, according to a news release issued by his office.
