Bon Jovi concert canceled

(Cleveland) - The Bon Jovi concert planned for FirstEnergy Stadium on July 14 to kick off the Browns season has been canceled.

Browns Spokesman Neal Gulkis says questions are being referred to Bon Jovi's publicist.

A statement released Monday morning simple says, "The July 14th Cleveland Browns “Fan Kickoff Concert” at FirstEnergy Stadium, featuring Bon Jovi and opening act Michael Stanley, has been cancelled.  For refund information, ticket holders should return to their original point of purchase."

The Cleveland Browns discussed the “Fan Kickoff Concert” May 28. The show was planned to help Northeast Ohio launch the 2013 NFL football season.

Ticket sales have reportedly been lagging.

The July 14th show was one of only six U.S. stadium dates on Bon Jovi’s current 75-city “Because We Can - The Tour”.

Bon Jovi, 51, last played Cleveland in March when the band was at Quicken Loans Arena.

Shortly after that, longtime guitar player Richie Sambora left the band citing "personal reasons".
