Josh Tomlin to start Tuesday against Twins

(CLEVELAND) -- Terry Francona announced on Saturday afternoon that Josh Tomlin will start Tuesday night's game against the Minnesota Twins.

By making the decision to send Carlos Carrasco to the bullpen, the Indians needed a starter for his next scheduled start. The Twins visit Cleveland for a four-game weekday series beginning Monday.

While Trevor Bauer has pitched well at Triple-A Columbus, this seemed like the right decision for now according to Francona.

"Josh's last two outings have been really good," Francona told the media on Saturday. "It's his [scheduled] day to pitch. We want to keep our guys on their day. He pitched so well in spring training. I think it'll be good for him. He'll help us win."

On Friday, Indians general manager Chris Antonetti indicated this stint by Tomlin may be longer than just one start.

During spring training, Tomlin competed for the final spot in the Tribe's rotation with Carrasco, Aaron Harang and Trevor Bauer.
